The Ghana Police Service has arrested three Nigerian nationals suspected of belonging to a criminal syndicate allegedly responsible for several robbery incidents targeting bank customers in Kumasi and surrounding communities.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command announced the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, and signed by the Head of its Public Affairs Unit, Superintendent Godwin Ahianyo.
The suspects were identified as Aboy Promise, 30; Favour Uwalaka, 45; and Kingsley, 35.
According to the police, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation conducted by an Inspector-General of Police Special Team at about 11:30pm on October 31, 2026.
The operation involved officers from the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department Headquarters and the Accra Regional Police Intelligence Directorate.
The police disclosed that Aboy Promise and Favour Uwalaka were arrested at a hotel in Moshie Zongo, where officers recovered GH¢1,600, several mobile phones, a Royal motorcycle and a master key allegedly used to gain unauthorised access to vehicles belonging to bank customers.
During interrogation, the two suspects reportedly admitted involvement in the robberies and identified two alleged accomplices, Chinedu, popularly known as Alhaji, and Kingsley, also known as KC.
The police explained that preliminary investigations suggested the gang monitored banking facilities to identify customers withdrawing large amounts of money before following and attacking them.
The suspects were also alleged to have used a master key to break into vehicles belonging to bank customers and steal cash and other valuables left inside.
Following the interrogation, the arrested suspects reportedly led officers to another hotel in Dechemso, a suburb of Kumasi, where Kingsley, 35, was apprehended.
However, the fourth suspect, Chinedu, alias Alhaji, remains at large.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to members of the public to provide credible information that could assist in locating and arresting the fleeing suspect.
Residents with relevant information were advised to report to the nearest police station or contact the police through emergency numbers 191, 112 or the toll-free MTN and Telecel line 18555.
The police further disclosed that the suspects allegedly confessed to robbing a customer of GH¢15,000 at Asokore Mampong on October 27, 2026, after the victim withdrew the money from Kwamang Rural Bank.
They also reportedly admitted involvement in similar incidents at the At onsu branch of Fidelity Bank, the Ahodwo branch of Access Bank and other locations within Kumasi and its surrounding areas.
The three arrested Nigerians have since been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, where they are assisting with ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the police have urged bank customers to remain alert to suspicious individuals around banking premises and avoid leaving cash or other valuables unattended inside their vehicles.
The command also commended members of the public for their cooperation, assuring residents of its continued commitment to tackling robbery and other criminal activities across the region.
