Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has warned that it would deploy new weapons and strike different targets if the United States launches another attack on the country.
The warning comes as the conflict between Tehran and Washington enters its seventh month, with both sides remaining in a standoff despite a recent reduction in the intensity of fighting.
In a statement on Monday, an IRGC spokesman said Iran’s defence and counteroffensive strategy would undergo “significant changes” if the United States carried out another attack.
The spokesman said Iran would introduce weapons with new capabilities and target locations that had not previously been attacked.
The Revolutionary Guards also said they were prepared for what they described as a prolonged conflict.
Iran’s military command had earlier claimed that the United States was preparing further action against Tehran, although it did not provide details.
Fighting between Iran and the United States has eased in recent days following a renewed escalation at the end of August. However, tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran has continued sporadic attacks involving commercial shipping.
Both Iran and the United States are maintaining rival blockades in the strategic waterway as part of efforts to exert pressure on each other.
The conflict has also extended into Yemen, where the Iran-backed Houthi movement has expanded its territorial control in the country’s civil war.
The Houthis have also launched attacks against Saudi targets, including areas around the capital, Riyadh, further increasing regional tensions.
