The Lagos State Government has officially launched the 2026 Lagos Clean Energy Schools Innovation Challenge (LCESIC), unveiling 15 schools selected to participate in the programme.
The launch and unveiling ceremony, held in Lagos, brought together government officials, education stakeholders, industry partners, evaluators, mentors, teachers and students.
Declaring the programme open, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Mrs. Ibilola Kasunmu, welcomed participants and highlighted the importance of equipping young people with practical knowledge and skills in clean energy and innovation.
The event also featured goodwill messages from public and private-sector partners, who expressed support for initiatives aimed at promoting sustainability, innovation and clean-energy awareness among students.
Among those in attendance were the Director-General, Office of Education Quality Assurance, Dr. Ogunmuyiwa Suleiman; Senior Adviser to the Lagos State Government on Sustainable Development Goals, Dr. Oreoluwa; General Manager, Lagos State Electrification Agency, Engr. Balogun; Senior Special Adviser to the Government on Sustainable Development Goals, Engr. Michael Folorunsho; and the Managing Director of Ibile Oil and Gas, alongside other stakeholders.
The Top 15 participating schools are Vetland Senior Grammar School, Iju Senior Grammar School, Jakande Estate Comprehensive Senior College, Kosofe Senior College, Isheri Senior Grammar School, Agbede Senior Grammar School, Epetedo Senior High School, Alimosho Senior Grammar School, Comprehensive Senior High School, Oriwu Senior Model College, Okesuna Model High School, Archdeacon Adelaja Senior High School, Abesan Senior High School, Odo Obara Senior High School and Somolu Senior High School.
The ceremony also recognised the evaluators and technical mentors supporting the challenge, in recognition of their contributions to the programme.
The five schools unveiled as the leading schools in the challenge are Vetland Senior Grammar School, Iju Senior Grammar School, Jakande Estate Comprehensive Senior College, Kosofe Senior College and Isheri Senior Grammar School.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Director, Oil and Gas Department, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. Adereti Adedayo, who appreciated the government, partners, mentors, evaluators, schools and other stakeholders for their support towards the initiative.
