NDLEA Pledges Stronger Enforcement After Abuja Drug Raid Attack on Officers

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reiterated its commitment to enforcement operations and institutional accountability following a violent attack on two of its officers during a raid in Abuja. The agency says it will ensure that those responsible for the incident are identified and prosecuted.

Chairman of the NDLEA, retired Brigadier General Buba Marwa, made this known during a visit to the injured officers, Ayegh Dooyun Zachariah and Shehu Jamil Ibrahim, who are receiving treatment at the National Hospital, Abuja. The officers were reportedly attacked by a mob during an anti-drug operation in the Dawaki area of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday, May 15, 2026.

From an operational and governance perspective, Marwa assured that the agency will fully cover the officers’ medical care and welfare, while also reinforcing internal support systems for personnel engaged in high-risk enforcement duties. He also issued commendation letters recognising their professionalism, highlighting the human resource cost of drug enforcement operations and the importance of protecting frontline personnel. The NDLEA chief further emphasized that despite resistance from criminal networks, the agency remains focused on disrupting illicit drug supply chains, strengthening enforcement capacity, and maintaining regulatory stability in communities affected by drug-related activities.
