One person has been killed following a clash involving security personnel attached to Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and suspected thugs at the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo.
The incident occurred during a visit by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and his nephew, Davido, to the monarch.
According to reports, a confrontation broke out between two groups outside the palace, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
The governor’s security personnel reportedly fired into the air and used tear gas to disperse the suspected thugs, allowing the governor’s convoy to leave the palace safely.
Davido later addressed the incident in a post on X, saying the fight occurred outside the palace and was unrelated to him or his uncle.
The Osun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the confrontation began after a suspected political thug, Adebayo Taoreed, also known as “Small Rugged,” allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was stopped by members of his security team.
Ojelabi said the incident attracted other members of Taoreed’s alleged cult group, who reportedly attempted to overpower the security personnel, resulting in an exchange of gunfire.
The suspected thugs temporarily blocked the entrance to the palace but were eventually overpowered, allowing the governor’s convoy and Davido to leave the area.
Police said the group later moved towards the Ayepe area and allegedly shot 60-year-old Tajudeen Yusuf at Ita-Olokan, Osogbo.
The police confirmed the killing and said an investigation had commenced.
The Commissioner of Police (Election), Osun State Command, Samuel Etaifo, assured the public that security resources would be deployed to identify and arrest those responsible for the incident.
