Wike says he will resign if Tinubu loses FCT and Rivers in 2027

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, says he will resign from the Federal Executive Council if President Bola Tinubu loses the Federal Capital Territory and Rivers State in the 2027 presidential election.

Wike made the declaration during an engagement with leaders and members of the Apo Mechanics and Traders Association in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, the minister said his continued role as FCT Minister was tied to his ability to deliver electoral support for the President in the two areas.

Wike said that if Tinubu loses the FCT and Rivers State in the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027, he would announce his resignation the following day.

He said he would not be qualified to remain FCT Minister if he could not deliver the territory politically.

The minister also outlined his plans for the 2027 election in the FCT, saying a multi-party coalition was being formed to pursue victory across various elective positions.

Wike endorsed candidates for different legislative positions and reiterated his support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

He identified Philip Aduda as the preferred candidate for the Senate and said the two candidates being supported for the House of Representatives were former Area Council chairmen.

Wike said the coalition would bring different political parties together in the FCT as part of the strategy to secure electoral results.

He also described his political commitment to the President as a firm agreement, saying the engagement with the traders marked its final affirmation.
