NIMASA Reaffirms Commitment to Efficient and Globally Competitive Maritime Administration

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has restated its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s maritime sector through continued reforms, improved transparency and closer collaboration with industry stakeholders.

Director-General of NIMASA, Dr Dayo Mobereola, gave the assurance while receiving the leadership of the Alumni Association of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (AMANO) during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Lagos.

Mobereola said the agency would continue to enhance regulatory oversight, encourage innovation and expand opportunities for Nigerian seafarers in line with the policy direction of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.

According to him, NIMASA’s goal is to build a maritime administration that is efficient, transparent and capable of competing with global standards.

He described the maritime industry as an important contributor to Nigeria’s economic growth and noted that professional and alumni associations such as AMANO remain valuable partners in shaping policies that can unlock the sector’s full potential.

The NIMASA boss also emphasised the need for sustained cooperation between regulators, training institutions and industry operators to improve capacity development and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the international maritime space.

Speaking earlier, AMANO President Emmanuel Maiguwa commended the agency for introducing an electronic platform for the issuance of Seafarers’ Certificates.

He described the digital initiative as a significant step toward improving efficiency, transparency and accessibility in the certification process for Nigerian seafarers.
