The Katsina State Government has completed plans to release N4 billion in community grants to support development projects across the state’s 361 political wards.
The State Coordinator of the Community Development Programme (CDP), Dr Kamaluddeen Kabir, disclosed this while speaking with journalists during the ongoing 2027 pre-budget defence organised by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
According to him, the programme is awaiting the approval of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda before the funds are disbursed. He explained that each ward will receive N10 million for projects selected by residents based on their most urgent needs.
Kabir said the initiative is designed to strengthen grassroots development and help communities address pressing infrastructure challenges, including the rehabilitation of public facilities that have fallen into disrepair.
He noted that the state government had already distributed N5 billion under the programme in 2025 and has proposed another N5 billion in the 2027 budget to sustain and expand the intervention.
The CDP coordinator added that the grants are financed jointly by the state government and the 34 local government councils. He said communities that demonstrate transparency and proper use of previous allocations may qualify for additional support, subject to the governor’s approval.
Kabir warned that any community found diverting the funds from approved projects would face sanctions, stressing that the resources are meant strictly for community development.
He also urged residents and community leaders to go beyond submitting project requests during the budget process by actively monitoring implementation to ensure that approved projects are executed by the relevant ministries, departments and agencies.
The Community Development Programme is one of the Katsina State Government’s flagship grassroots initiatives aimed at promoting community participation in governance. The programme allows residents to identify, implement and monitor development projects at the ward level while complementing government investments in infrastructure across the state.
