The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has warned the public to beware of fraudsters and fake websites posing as official immigration platforms.
In a statement posted on its verified social media channels on Thursday in Abuja, the NIS advised applicants to use only approved portals for passport, visa and other immigration services.
The service said the warning was necessary to protect both Nigerians and foreign nationals from fraudulent websites created to deceive unsuspecting people seeking immigration-related services.
According to the NIS, passport applications should be made only through the service’s official passport portal.
It added that separate authorized platforms are available for visa applications at Nigerian embassies, electronic visa (e-Visa), Temporary Work Permit (TWP) and the Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (eCERPAC).
The agency urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid dealing with unauthorized websites or individuals claiming to represent the NIS or offer assistance in processing immigration services.
It stressed that applicants should access services only through official online channels in order to avoid scams and protect their personal information.
The NIS also announced that its Mobile Application for Contactless Passport Application can be downloaded from the Apple iOS App Store and Google Play Store, providing a secure and convenient option for passport processing.
The service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the integrity of its digital platforms and ensuring efficient service delivery.
It advised applicants to verify the authenticity of any immigration website before making payments or submitting personal details and said only information released through official NIS channels should be trusted.
The NIS further called on members of the public to report suspicious websites or any fraudulent activity connected to immigration services to the appropriate authorities.
