Dangote Cement Plc has renewed its commitment to promoting environmentally sustainable cement production, urging manufacturers across Africa to adopt cleaner technologies while expanding production to meet the continent’s growing infrastructure needs.
The Group Managing Director of Dangote Cement, Arvind Pathak, made the appeal after attending the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) CEO Strategic Dialogue in Madrid, Spain, where industry leaders discussed strategies for reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainable growth.
The two-day meeting focused on key issues including low-carbon construction, climate policies, financing for decarbonisation and the adoption of innovative technologies needed to achieve net-zero emissions.
Speaking after the event, Pathak said Africa has an opportunity to drive sustainable industrial growth by balancing infrastructure development with environmental responsibility.
He stressed that the continent’s cement industry must continue expanding production while embracing measures that reduce its carbon footprint.
According to him, participants at the summit agreed on the need to accelerate decarbonisation by increasing the use of alternative fuels, reducing clinker content in cement production and investing in modern technologies suited to local conditions.
Pathak said these measures would help the African cement industry remain competitive while contributing to global efforts to address climate change and support sustainable development.
