The University of Abuja has unveiled what is described as Nigeria’s first artificial intelligence-powered academic research ecosystem designed to support structured thesis, dissertation, and scholarly writing. The platform, known as Thesis-SpeedWrite, is aimed at improving research output across higher education institutions.
Developed by Professor Isaiah Ilo of the Department of Theatre Arts, the system guides users through key stages of academic work, including topic development, literature review, data analysis, citation management, and final manuscript preparation. It is positioned as a tool to promote originality, academic integrity, and adherence to global research standards.
At the launch, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi said AI presents both opportunities and challenges for universities, stressing the need to embrace innovation without compromising academic values. Represented by the Dean of Postgraduate School, Prof. Kazeem Waziri, he noted that the platform is designed as a support tool rather than a replacement for critical thinking or supervisory roles.
