Natural Health Expert Urges Nigerians to Embrace Preventive Healthcare, Responsible Herbal Medicine

Healthcare practitioner and natural health advocate, Adaeze David Bennett, has urged Nigerians to adopt healthier lifestyles by prioritising balanced nutrition, regular exercise, quality sleep, stress management, and the responsible use of herbal medicine.

Speaking on Trade FM’s Breakfast Business Briefing, Bennett described natural wellness as caring for the body through healthy daily habits while making informed choices about herbal remedies under professional guidance.

She stressed that nutrition is the foundation of good health, encouraging people to consume more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and quality protein while reducing their intake of ultra-processed foods. According to her, simple and affordable habits such as drinking enough water, exercising regularly, and getting adequate rest can significantly improve overall well-being.

Bennett also cautioned against self-prescribing herbal medicines, noting that natural products can interact with prescription drugs and may pose health risks if used without professional supervision. She advised individuals taking conventional medications to consult qualified healthcare providers before combining them with herbal remedies.

The natural health advocate said conventional and herbal medicine should be viewed as complementary rather than competing approaches, adding that collaboration between healthcare professionals can improve patient outcomes.

She called for greater scientific research into Nigeria’s indigenous medicinal plants, saying stronger clinical evidence and quality control would boost public confidence and support the safe integration of herbal medicine into the country’s healthcare system.

Highlighting the growing importance of preventive healthcare, Bennett encouraged Nigerians to prioritise regular physical activity, breathing exercises, meditation, stress management, and adequate sleep, warning that chronic stress can negatively affect digestion, blood pressure, sleep quality, and overall health.

She further encouraged people seeking healthier lifestyles to source quality food items such as grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables from reputable markets and trusted suppliers.

Bennett concluded by urging Nigerians to make consistent healthy lifestyle choices and rely on credible health information and qualified medical professionals when making decisions about their health.
