Troops of the Joint Task Force South-East, Operation Udoka, have uncovered an alleged illegal arms supply network involving two officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and one officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
According to the Nigerian Army, those arrested include Assistant Superintendent II Obaji Sampson of the NSCDC, Superintendent Tasie Victor Nnamdi, the Unit Armourer of the NSCDC Enugu State Command, and Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Ekwueme Onyebuchi Clement.
The Army said intelligence-led operations and collaboration with other security agencies led to the arrests, which it described as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the South-East.
Investigations allegedly identified Superintendent Nnamdi as the principal supplier of arms, while Assistant Superintendent Clement was identified as a major recipient.
The Army said the arrests exposed a suspected illegal arms supply network linked to criminal elements in the region.
In a related operation in Enugu State, troops arrested a suspected member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, identified as Friday Nnanna, during a raid on a residence in the Trans-Ekulu area.
Security operatives recovered four pump-action guns, a Beretta pistol, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, materials suspected to be used for making improvised explosive devices, military equipment, assorted weapons, vehicle number plates, and four vehicles.
Meanwhile, in Cross River State, troops working alongside the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency carried out a raid in Balep Community along the Ikom–Ogoja Road, where three suspects were arrested.
Items recovered during that operation included Dane guns, a locally made pistol, cartridges, military gear, and substances suspected to be cannabis.
The Nigerian Army said all suspects and recovered items remain in custody as investigations continue.
It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies to combat criminal activities and improve security across the country.
