NUEE Warns Poor Worker Welfare Threatens Nigeria’s Electricity Industry

Comrade Mbang Ntukubee, Assistant General Secretary of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), has raised concerns over poor industrial relations and worker welfare in Nigeria’s electricity sector.

Speaking earlier on TRADE FM’ BUSINESS BREAKFAST SHOW, on the topic Industrial Relations in Nigeria’s Electricity Industry: NUEE’s Stand on Worker Welfare and Sector Reforms,” he said many workers are poorly treated, underpaid, and exposed to insecurity while carrying out their duties.

Ntukubee noted that about 75 percent of workers in the sector are casual staff, with many earning below minimum wage, a situation he said has affected productivity and increased the migration of skilled workers abroad.

He also highlighted cases of harassment and abduction of electricity workers, stressing that poor welfare packages and inadequate safety measures continue to affect morale in the industry. Comrade Mbang Ntukubee, called on government agencies and investors to improve working conditions, ensure peaceful labour relations, and prioritize the welfare and security of workers to strengthen the power sector.
