Nigeria’s broadcast industry is set for a major technological transition as the National Broadcasting Commission has announced June 17, 2026, as the official date for the nationwide launch of the Digital Switch Over (DSO) programme, with December 31, 2028 fixed as the final deadline for the complete shutdown of analogue television broadcasting in Nigeria.
The move is expected to accelerate investment opportunities across the media, telecommunications, advertising, and digital infrastructure sectors, while opening new revenue streams for content creators and broadcasters.
The transition to digital broadcasting is also projected to improve spectrum efficiency, enhance picture and sound quality, and support the growth of Nigeria’s creative and technology-driven economy.
Industry analysts say the phased analogue switch-off will require significant upgrades in transmission equipment, set-top box distribution, and digital broadcasting infrastructure, creating opportunities for manufacturers, signal distributors, and technology service providers. The DSO initiative aligns Nigeria with global broadcasting standards and is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of the country’s media industry in the digital era
