PAMA welcomes FG’s plans for affordable long-term industrial financing

The Pan African Manufacturers Association, PAMA, has expressed support for the Federal Government’s commitment to improving electricity supply, providing affordable long-term financing for industries and strengthening local procurement.

The association also welcomed plans to secure industrial corridors and establish quarterly engagements between the government and manufacturers, describing the priorities as important steps towards strengthening industrial development.

According to PAMA, the commitments align with its objectives of promoting industrialisation, developing regional value chains and expanding trade among African countries.

However, the association stressed that effective implementation would determine whether the proposed measures translate into improved business conditions, higher industrial productivity and stronger competitiveness for Nigerian manufacturers in regional and international markets.

PAMA made its position known while congratulating the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, MAN, on the successful hosting of its 54th Annual General Meeting.

The meeting, which focused on the theme “Leveraging National Industrial Policy to Position Nigeria as Africa’s Industrial Hub,” examined strategies for implementing the Nigeria Industrial Policy 2025.

Discussions also centred on improving manufacturing competitiveness, expanding access to industrial financing, reducing energy costs and encouraging local value addition.

One of the major highlights was the sixth Adeola Odutola Lecture, delivered by Dr Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, a former Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, UNIDO.

Participants at the meeting emphasised the need to move beyond policy announcements and translate industrial commitments into measurable economic outcomes through proper implementation, institutional accountability and sustained cooperation between the public and private sectors.

PAMA reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with MAN, noting that stronger partnerships among manufacturers across Africa would be essential for developing regional supply chains and expanding industrial capacity.

The association also highlighted the importance of collaboration in unlocking opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA.

It maintained that building a competitive and interconnected African manufacturing sector would support sustainable economic growth, create employment opportunities and increase the continent’s participation in regional and global trade.
