Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda has condemned the killing of Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahaya Masussuka, describing him as a religious leader who promoted peaceful coexistence and understanding among people of different faiths.
The governor has called on security agencies to investigate the incident thoroughly, identify those responsible and ensure they are brought to justice.
Masussuka was reportedly shot dead alongside an associate by unidentified gunmen riding on a motorcycle outside his residence in Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area of Katsina State on Monday night, October 26, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, Radda said he was shocked by the killing and extended his condolences to the deceased’s family, the Islamic community and others affected by the incident.
He urged security agencies to intensify their investigations and establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.
The governor said those responsible for the killing must face the full weight of the law.
Governor urges residents to remain calm
Radda appealed to residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies and provide credible information that could assist investigators.
He also cautioned against actions that could heighten tensions or threaten peace in the state.
Describing the late cleric’s contributions, the governor said Masussuka was known for teachings centred on the Qur’an, peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding among people of different religious backgrounds.
He added that the cleric had spoken against violent extremism and radicalisation.
The governor also offered words of comfort to the bereaved family, urging them to remain steadfast in their faith during the difficult period.
Radda prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family, associates and the wider Muslim community the strength to bear the loss.
