New Lagos University Gets NUC Approval for 34 Undergraduate Programmes

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 34 undergraduate programmes for the newly established Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, Lagos State, ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.

The approval was communicated in a letter dated October 23, 2026, signed on behalf of the NUC Executive Secretary, Professor Abdullahi Ribadu. It followed a resource verification exercise by expert panels to assess the human and material resources available for the programmes.

According to a statement made available to The PUNCH on Monday, the commission approved the programmes for full-time study at the university’s take-off campuses.

The university has been granted an admission quota of 50 students per programme, giving it a combined approved capacity of 1,700 students across the 34 courses. The NUC clarified that the approval covers full-time programmes only, adding that any proposed part-time programmes would require a separate application.

Five faculties receive approval

The approved courses are spread across five faculties: Computing and Informatics, Engineering, Allied Health Sciences, Management Sciences and Technology, and Science.

The Faculty of Computing and Informatics will offer Computer Science, Cyber Security, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Information Communication Technology, and Software Engineering.

Under the Faculty of Engineering, the approved programmes are Geomatics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Civil Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering.

The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences will offer Prosthetics and Orthotics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Complementary and Alternative Medicines, Health Information Management, Nursing Science, and Public Health.

The Faculty of Management Sciences and Technology has received approval for Business Information Technology, Entrepreneurship, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Transportation Management.

Meanwhile, the Faculty of Science will offer Biotechnology, Forensic Science, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Marine Science, Medicinal Chemistry, Medical Physics, and Nuclear Science.

University operates temporarily at LASU campus

Established in November 2025, the Federal University of Science and Technology, Epe, is among Nigeria’s newly created federal universities.

The institution currently shares some facilities and infrastructure at the Epe campus of Lagos State University (LASU).

LASU management explained in August that the arrangement was temporary and intended to support the new university’s take-off through institutional collaboration and partnership.

Both universities indicated that the arrangement would remain in place until FUSTECH relocates to its permanent site.

Following the NUC’s approval, Vice-Chancellor Professor Kazeem Oshikoya expressed the university’s readiness to commence its inaugural admission process.
