The Chief Executive Officer of Macdeb Group, Waywealth Adedoyin, has called for greater adoption of tailored solar energy solutions by Nigerian businesses, saying renewable energy can help address unreliable power supply and reduce the pressure of energy costs on businesses.
Adedoyin, who spoke during an interview with Trade FM, said Macdeb Group primarily provides energy consulting services, assessing customers’ energy requirements before designing solutions suited to their specific needs.
He stressed that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to solar installation, noting that the company considers factors such as a customer’s energy consumption, existing power sources and available budget before recommending a system.
According to him, unreliable conventional electricity supply remains one of the major reasons individuals and businesses are turning to solar energy. He explained that businesses can face serious disruptions when electricity goes off at critical moments, while dependence on generators also comes with the additional challenge of fuel availability and cost.
Adedoyin said businesses with limited budgets do not necessarily have to make a large investment at once, advising small and medium-sized enterprises to start with a smaller solar system and expand it as their needs and financial capacity increase.
He also highlighted the environmental benefits of renewable energy, particularly its potential to reduce carbon emissions, while noting that businesses should consider their long-term energy expenditure when determining the value of investing in solar systems.
The Macdeb Group CEO further stressed the importance of proper maintenance, saying regular monitoring, cleaning and careful use of solar equipment are necessary to maintain energy output and prevent degradation in system performance over time.
He disclosed that Macdeb Group also integrates renewable energy solutions with security and surveillance services, allowing customers to combine solar power with monitoring systems to improve the reliability of security infrastructure, particularly during power outages.
Adedoyin, however, urged customers to pay attention to standards and quality when investing in solar systems. He expressed concern over substandard installations, stressing that industry players have a responsibility to ensure that appropriate standards are followed in the technology, products and installation processes.
He also encouraged customers to educate themselves about solar systems and understand the standards and performance expectations before making an investment.
Adedoyin said the growing interest in renewable energy presents an opportunity for solar and other renewable energy companies to provide solutions that can support businesses and contribute to Nigeria’s energy development.
