Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is expected to return to action for Galatasaray after the first international break of the 2026/27 season, according to reports from Turkish media.
The former African Footballer of the Year is reportedly targeting a return for Galatasaray’s Süper Lig clash with Kasımpaşa on October 9 as he continues his recovery from a muscle injury.
Osimhen was initially included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
However, he was withdrawn from the squad after his recovery took longer than expected.
The team’s media officer, Promise Efoghe, said Osimhen had been included in the squad because both Galatasaray and the Super Eagles technical team had hoped he would recover in time for the Super Lig fixture against Trabzonspor and the subsequent international window.
Osimhen suffered the injury during Galatasaray’s match against Başakşehir on September 4.
The injury has kept him out of games against Sporting Lisbon, Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.
Following his withdrawal, Coventry City striker Taiwo Awoniyi is set to return to the Super Eagles for the first time in two years.
Awoniyi’s inclusion was confirmed on Sunday after Osimhen’s withdrawal was established by the team’s medical staff.
Other forwards expected to compete for places in the Super Eagles attack include Tolu Arokodare, Akor Adams and Rafiu Durosinmi, who have been producing strong performances for their respective clubs.
Before sustaining the injury, Osimhen had made a strong start to the season, scoring six goals and providing two assists in his first four matches.
