The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, has removed a truck carrying two 20-foot containers that obstructed about 80 per cent of the roadway at National-Ashade in Lagos.
The incident occurred at about 11:21 p.m. on Sunday after the MACK truck reportedly developed a fault while attempting to make a U-turn.
In a statement issued on Monday, LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said the agency’s Eagle Response Team stationed at Cappa was alerted and quickly deployed to the scene.
He said responders found the truck carrying the two containers tilted across the road.
According to the agency, preliminary findings indicated that a tyre burst caused the truck to tilt, creating a major danger for other road users and blocking most of the roadway.
LASEMA said its personnel immediately introduced traffic diversion measures and secured the area to prevent another accident while heavy-duty recovery equipment was being mobilised.
The agency later confirmed that the truck and containers had been removed and the road fully reopened to traffic.
LASEMA said no death or injury was recorded in the incident.
Oke-Osanyintolu commended the agency’s Cobra and Eagle Response Teams, as well as other collaborating agencies, for their prompt response.
He urged drivers of articulated and heavy-duty vehicles to maintain their vehicles properly, obey speed limits and other traffic regulations, and exercise caution while travelling on Lagos roads.
The LASEMA permanent secretary also encouraged residents to report emergencies promptly through the toll-free emergency lines 767 and 112.
