The Kaduna State Police Command says it has arrested six suspected kidnappers and uncovered a suspected kidnapping hideout in Ikara Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement issued in Kaduna.
According to Hassan, the arrests followed information provided by a kidnap victim who escaped from captivity, as well as intelligence supplied by members of the public.
He explained that the victim reported the abduction to the police on Tuesday and identified a house belonging to Ja’e Samalu, 65, of Dogon Pako Village in Ikara as the place where he had been held.
Following the complaint, officers from the Ikara Police Division, working with local vigilante members, carried out a raid on the location.
The operation led to the arrest of six suspects aged between 20 and 65 years.
Hassan said the suspects are currently in police custody while investigations continue to determine the role each of them played in the alleged kidnapping operation.
He added that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the suspected criminal network.
The spokesperson also quoted the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, CP Muhammad Rabiu, as commending the officers involved in the operation and members of the public who provided useful information.
Rabiu urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the nearest police station.
He further warned that criminals may use residential buildings as hideouts or places to keep kidnapped victims, stressing that community vigilance and timely information-sharing are essential in combating kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
