An Ikeja Special Offences Court has granted N20 million bail to social media personality Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, over an alleged N69.15 million property fraud.
Delivering the ruling on Thursday, Justice Rahman Oshodi admitted the defendant to bail with two responsible sureties in the same amount.
The judge noted that although the prosecution did not oppose the bail application, the court was required to consider the seriousness of the charges and the penalties attached before exercising its discretion.
Justice Oshodi also said the court considered the defence’s explanation regarding the whereabouts of the defendant’s international passport.
As part of the bail conditions, each surety must provide a three-year bank statement or evidence of fixed deposits worth at least N20 million. The court also directed Blessing CEO and her sureties to undergo verification through the Lagos State Judiciary’s Bail Information Management System.
In addition, the judge ordered the Nigerian Immigration Service to enforce travel restrictions on the defendant until the case is concluded.
The matter was adjourned until October 12 for the continuation of trial.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Blessing CEO was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on June 9 over the alleged offence.
