President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose, as chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Board, as part of 26 new appointments across 10 federal government agencies and commissions.
The appointments, which take immediate effect, were announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in Abuja.
According to the statement, Fayose will lead the REA board alongside Alhaji Ahmadu Abubakar and Engineer Ilyasu Ibrahim Makinta, who were named members and non-executive directors. The agency’s Director-General, Abba Abubakar Aliyu, and its three previously appointed executive directors will complete the board.
President Tinubu also appointed Major General Junaid Bindawa as chairman of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, with Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, a former member of the House of Representatives from Lagos, named secretary.
Other appointments to the commission include Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian (Benue), Oladele Olatubosun (Oyo), Yakubu Umar Barde (Kaduna), Dr Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi).
The President also redeployed Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, formerly Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, to serve as secretary of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
In other appointments, Dr Abuh Mohammed was named Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi became Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading (NBET), while Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin was appointed chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.
Engineer Julius Oloro was also appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in Kwara State, succeeding Dr A.R. Kamal, who died in January.
Tinubu also inaugurated the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, with Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as chairman. Other members are Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Aliyu Makama, Dr Suleiman Gidado, Louis O. Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Idowu Onikola.
In addition, Shuni Muhammad Dahiru was appointed Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was reassigned to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) in April.
To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mathias Byuan, the former Executive Director (Finance) of the Federal Housing Authority, who stepped down to pursue the Benue State governorship election, the President appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja, an economist, legal scholar and current secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC).
