The Labour Party has refuted claims that it failed to submit the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination portal closed, maintaining that the exercise was completed four days before the deadline.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, described the reports as false and misleading, urging party members and the public to disregard them.
According to Asogwa, the Labour Party uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates on July 10, 2026, ahead of the July 14 deadline set by INEC and in line with the commission’s guidelines.
He criticised the report, alleging that the media organisation involved failed to verify the information with the party’s leadership and instead relied on an unnamed INEC source.
Asogwa expressed confidence that INEC’s publication of the final list of validly nominated candidates for the 2027 general elections would confirm that the Labour Party met all nomination requirements.
He also urged Nigerians to ignore what he described as an attempt to discredit the party ahead of the elections, insisting the claims had been disproved by the facts.
The clarification comes as political parties conclude the nomination of candidates for the 2027 general elections in line with INEC’s timetable.
