Trade Fair Complex vows crackdown on counterfeit drinks, backs NAFDAC

The management of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Management Board (LITFCMB) has reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy towards the production and distribution of counterfeit goods within its premises following the arrest of two individuals allegedly involved in the illegal revalidation of expired drinks and the production of fake consumable products.

The Board condemned the alleged activities, describing them as a threat to public health and a violation of the principles of legitimate trade and ethical business practices for which the complex was established.

In a statement made available to Vanguard on Wednesday, the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of LITFCMB, Veronica Ndanusa, said investigations had commenced in collaboration with relevant authorities to prevent similar incidents.

Ndanusa warned that anyone found engaging in activities capable of endangering public health or undermining local manufacturing would face the full consequences of the law.

She maintained that the complex was established to support legitimate businesses and would not tolerate the use of its facilities for the production or distribution of counterfeit and substandard goods.

The LITFCMB chief executive commended the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for its enforcement operation and pledged the Board’s continued cooperation with regulatory and law enforcement agencies to eliminate illegal activities within the facility.

She also urged traders and business operators to uphold acceptable commercial standards, stressing that the pursuit of profit must not compromise the health and safety of consumers.

The Board reiterated its commitment to preserving the integrity of the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex as a major commercial hub and protecting public confidence in locally manufactured products.
