The Federal Ministry of Education has released the final list of ranked and approved textbooks to be used in Nigerian schools for the 2026–2028 period.
The ministry announced the development in a statement issued on Monday by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, following the completion of the first phase of the national textbook ranking exercise. The approved list covers Primary 1, Primary 4, JSS 1 and SS 1 textbooks.
According to the ministry, every approved textbook has been assigned a unique Ranking/QR Tracking Code, alongside information such as the title, author, publisher and year of publication. It said the system is designed to improve the identification, monitoring and accountability of instructional materials. The exercise was carried out under the supervision of the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and Minister of State for Education, Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad, with the final list approved by Alausa.
The ministry explained that the process of generating and assigning the tracking codes contributed to the time needed to complete and validate the approved lists. It added that the ranking exercise would continue in phases, with the second phase covering Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2 and SS 2.
Publishers, schools, education authorities and procurement agencies have been advised to consult and comply with the approved list when selecting textbooks for the affected classes. The ministry said the exercise is part of efforts by the Federal Government to improve the quality, relevance and accountability of instructional materials in Nigerian schools.
The complete 2026–2028 approved textbook list, including the Ranking/QR Tracking Codes, has been made available by the ministry.
