The volume of crude oil supplied to Nigeria’s domestic refineries increased by 16.75 per cent in August 2026, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).
The latest NMDPRA data showed that crude deliveries to local refineries averaged 683,000 barrels per day (b/d) in August, up from 585,000b/d recorded in July.
The figures were contained in the Authority’s August 2026 Midstream and Downstream Sector Factsheet, released on Monday.
The increase in crude availability came alongside higher domestic petrol supply during the month. Petrol receipts rose by 11 per cent, from 45.5 million litres per day (ml/d) in July to 50.5ml/d in August.
Domestic petrol supply accounted for 35.9ml/d in August, representing a 39 per cent increase from the 25.8ml/d recorded in July.
At the same time, petrol imports declined by 26 per cent, falling from 19.7ml/d in July to 14.6ml/d in August.
Dangote Refinery records 105.21% utilisation
The NMDPRA report also showed that the Dangote Refinery recorded an average capacity utilisation rate of 105.21 per cent during August.
The refinery produced an average of 41.94ml/d of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), 18.01ml/d of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) and 24.48ml/d of aviation fuel (ATK) during the month.
Of the PMS produced, 35.87ml/d went to the domestic market, while 9.73ml/d was exported.
For AGO, domestic receipts stood at 12.37ml/d, compared with exports of 8.75ml/d. The refinery also supplied 3.07ml/d of ATK to the domestic market, while 21.30ml/d was exported.
At the end of August, the refinery held stocks of 360.4 million litres of PMS, 137.2 million litres of AGO and 133.3 million litres of ATK.
The report further indicated that petrol supplied by the Dangote Refinery increased by 39.1 per cent, rising to 35.9ml/d in August 2026 from 25.8ml/d in July.
Petrol imports fall further
Meanwhile, NMDPRA data showed that Nigeria’s average daily petrol imports dropped by 26 per cent in August to 14.6 million litres, compared with 19.7 million litres recorded in July.
Diesel imports also recorded a significant decline. Average daily diesel imports fell to 1.3 million litres in August, down from 7.9 million litres in July.
Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) imports, however, moved in the opposite direction, increasing from 0.9 million litres per day in July to 1.3 million litres per day in August.
