Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have rescued a woman held by kidnappers and foiled a planned ransom exchange in Kebbi State.
The operation was carried out as part of ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry efforts in the state.
Acting spokesperson for the troops, Colonel Olaniyi Osoba, said the operation followed credible intelligence about a planned ransom transaction involving a woman who had been abducted from her farm the previous month.
He said the troops quickly moved to the location to intercept the exchange. On sighting the soldiers, the terrorists attempted to engage them but were overpowered by the troops’ superior firepower.
According to Osoba, the criminals fled in confusion and abandoned the hostage, allowing the troops to rescue her safely.
The woman was found unharmed and was later taken to Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, where she was reunited with her family.
Osoba said troops subsequently searched the route used by the fleeing terrorists to ensure the area was secured before returning to base.
In a separate operation, troops also carried out clearance and dominance patrols in Ngaski Local Government Area. The exercise was completed without incident as part of efforts to strengthen security and prevent criminal activities in the area.
Osoba said Operation FANSAN YAMMA would continue sustained operations against terrorists until they abandon their activities in Kebbi State and across Nigeria.
He assured that the military would maintain pressure on the terrorists and work to secure Kebbi State and the country.
The acting spokesperson also appealed to residents to support the security agencies by providing timely intelligence that could help prevent criminal groups from operating freely in affected communities.
