Nigeria’s crude oil production, excluding condensate, declined by 37,000 barrels per day (bpd) in July 2026, falling to 1.546 million bpd from 1.583 million bpd in June, according to the latest report released by the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The drop, based on secondary sources used by OPEC, represents a 2.3 per cent month-on-month decline in Nigeria’s crude oil output.
The figures were published in OPEC’s Monthly Oil Market Report, which showed that Nigeria remained one of Africa’s leading crude oil producers despite the reduction in output.
OPEC data indicated that Nigeria’s production improved from an average of 1.453 million bpd in the first quarter of 2026 to 1.552 million bpd in the second quarter.
Output averaged 1.554 million bpd in May, rose to 1.583 million bpd in June, the highest monthly level during the period under review, and then declined to 1.546 million bpd in July.
However, production figures submitted directly by OPEC member countries showed a steeper fall.
Under the direct communication data, Nigeria’s crude oil output dropped by 50,000 bpd, from 1.555 million bpd in June to 1.505 million bpd in July 2026.
At the broader OPEC level, total crude oil production based on secondary sources increased by 1.659 million bpd, rising to 23.632 million bpd in July from 21.973 million bpd in June.
The increase was driven mainly by higher production from Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, which recorded monthly gains of 665,000 bpd, 590,000 bpd and 393,000 bpd, respectively.
Total production by the OPEC Declaration of Cooperation (DoC) countries, which includes OPEC members and participating non-OPEC producers, averaged 37.655 million bpd in July, up by 1.424 million bpd from 36.232 million bpd in June.
Non-OPEC DoC producers, however, recorded a decline of 235,000 bpd, with output falling from 14.259 million bpd in June to 14.024 million bpd in July.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) reported that Nigeria’s total oil production, including condensate, fell by four per cent in July 2026.
According to the regulator, production declined from 1.74 million bpd in June to 1.67 million bpd in July.
NUPRC said the country produced 1.505 million bpd of crude oil and 0.17 million bpd of condensate during the month.
Combined crude oil and condensate production reached a high of 1.78 million bpd during the month, while the lowest daily output was 1.57 million bpd.
The regulator attributed the decline to operational challenges at the Erha and Akpo oil fields, which affected production volumes during the period under review and contributed significantly to the reduction in Nigeria’s overall output.
