The Nigerian Navy has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling human trafficking and other transnational crimes by handing over two rescued trafficking victims to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).
The victims were rescued during a targeted anti-human trafficking operation on July 17, 2026, and were officially transferred by the Forward Operating Base (FOB), Badagry, to NAPTIP’s Lagos Zonal Command in Ikeja on July 19, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the victims underwent documentation, biometric capture and other administrative procedures at the Western Naval Command Maritime Crime Investigation Desk before being handed over to NAPTIP for rehabilitation, protection and further investigation.
The Navy said the transfer was carried out in line with the Harmonised Standard Operating Procedures (HSOP) for handling victims of human trafficking.
It noted that the successful operation highlights the Navy’s commitment to protecting vulnerable persons while strengthening collaboration with NAPTIP and other security agencies in the fight against human trafficking and organised crime.
The Navy added that it will continue intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency cooperation aimed at dismantling trafficking networks, preventing transnational crimes and improving security along Nigeria’s maritime corridors.
