The Federal Government has begun accepting applications for its new digital device financing programme, Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.), which enables Nigerians to purchase laptops, smartphones and tablets through flexible credit payments.
The initiative is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy. It was officially launched on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister, Dr. Bosun Tijani, and CREDICORP Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Uzoma Nwagba.
The programme is designed to improve access to digital devices by allowing beneficiaries to spread payments over time instead of paying the full cost upfront. The pilot phase will focus on locally assembled laptops as part of efforts to encourage local manufacturing.
How to Apply
Interested applicants can apply by visiting the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal and selecting the “I’m Interested” option to access the application form.
Applicants will be required to provide:
- Their state of residence.
- Their employment status, including options such as salary earner, freelancer, business owner, student, job seeker or NYSC member.
- Their monthly income (optional).
- Whether they belong to a recognised digital talent programme, including 3MTT, Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa, Genesys Tech Hub, or another programme.
- The type of device needed, such as a laptop, smartphone or tablet.
- The intended use of the device, including education, remote work, freelancing, software development, business, content creation or other purposes.
- How they learned about the programme.
Before submitting the application, applicants must confirm that the information provided is accurate, agree to be contacted by CREDICORP, and consent to the use of their information to determine eligibility.
Who Can Apply?
For now, the 1,000-laptop pilot programme is limited to participants in the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.
According to Uzoma Nwagba, the rollout began in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries have already received laptops, while the remaining devices will be distributed to qualified 3MTT fellows in other states in phases.
Although the application form also includes participants from programmes such as Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub, CREDICORP has so far stated publicly that the current batch of 1,000 laptops is reserved for 3MTT beneficiaries.
The corporation has not yet announced the interest rates, repayment period or down-payment requirements for loans under the C.L.I.C.K.D. programme.
