Farmers back Northern govs’ N1bn monthly security fund

The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has commended the Northern Governors Forum for establishing the Northern Security Trust Fund and committing ₦1 billion monthly to address insecurity across the region.

In a statement issued on Monday by its National President, Muhammad Gettado, AFAN described the initiative as a significant step toward improving security in farming communities, boosting agricultural production and strengthening Nigeria’s food security.

The association also praised the inauguration of the fund’s management board, saying its members possess the integrity and experience needed to ensure transparent and accountable management of the resources.

Gettado said the governors had demonstrated strong commitment to tackling the security challenges that have disrupted farming activities and threatened livelihoods across northern Nigeria.

According to him, the monthly funding commitment reflects the governors’ collective resolve to confront insecurity and protect lives and property throughout the region.

AFAN expressed confidence that the initiative would restore farmers’ confidence, reduce attacks on agricultural communities and create a safer environment for farming activities to flourish.

The association noted that improved security would help increase crop production, stabilise food prices and enhance national food security.

AFAN also called on farmers, cooperative societies and its state chapters across Northern Nigeria to support the initiative by working closely with security agencies and providing credible information to help combat criminal activities.

The association reaffirmed its commitment to partnering with governments and other stakeholders to promote sustainable agricultural production in a peaceful and secure environment across the country.
