Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has increased its crude oil processing capacity to 700,000 barrels per day (bpd), exceeding its original design capacity of 650,000 bpd following a successful performance assessment by its process licensors. The achievement highlights the refinery’s operational efficiency and ability to optimize production beyond initial projections.
The company said the milestone reinforces confidence in the refinery’s expansion plans and demonstrates its capability to process higher crude volumes while maintaining performance standards. The development is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s refining capacity and support efforts to reduce reliance on imported petroleum products. According to Dangote Industries Limited, the refinery aims to double its processing strength to 1.4 million bpd within the next 30 months. The expansion strategy is designed to enhance Nigeria’s energy security, boost export earnings, and position the country as a major refining and petroleum products hub serving both regional and international markets.
