APC, PDP Submit Candidate Lists as INEC Extends Nomination Deadline

The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have confirmed the successful upload of their presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal, following the electoral body’s decision to extend the submission deadline.

INEC announced a three-day extension, shifting the deadline from July 11 to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, after the Inter-Party Advisory Council appealed on behalf of political parties that were unable to complete the process.

The commission said the extension was intended to promote inclusiveness while remaining within the provisions of the Electoral Act, urging all political parties to complete their submissions before the new deadline.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, confirmed that the ruling party successfully uploaded all 471 candidates, including its presidential and vice-presidential candidates, 109 senatorial candidates and 360 House of Representatives candidates.

He described the exercise as a major milestone, saying the party’s attention would now shift to nationwide mobilisation and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The Peoples Democratic Party also announced the successful submission of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates.

PDP National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, described the completion of the upload as another important achievement for the party ahead of the elections.

Meanwhile, the APC criticised opposition parties that failed to meet the initial July 11 deadline, arguing that the delay reflected poor organisation and raised concerns about their readiness to govern.

The ruling party said political parties unable to complete their own internal nomination processes on time could not be trusted to effectively manage the affairs of the country.

The APC also dismissed previous opposition claims that it influenced INEC’s decisions, noting that despite such allegations, the same parties sought and received an extension from the electoral commission after missing the original deadline.

The party maintained that meeting the deadline demonstrated its organisational discipline, commitment to due process and preparedness for the 2027 elections, while urging its members to remain focused on the next phase of the campaign.
