DisCos Rake In N597.55bn Revenue in Q1 2026 Despite Collection Gaps

Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria generated N597.55 billion in revenue during the first quarter of 2026, according to data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). The collections, which averaged N199.18 billion monthly, underscore the sector’s ability to sustain significant cash inflows despite ongoing operational and infrastructure challenges. Revenue stood at N204.74 billion in January, N196.68 billion in February, and N196.13 billion in March.

The NERC commercial performance reports showed that while revenue collection remained strong, the industry continued to grapple with substantial gaps between billed and collected amounts. In January, DisCos billed customers N268.20 billion but recovered only N204.74 billion, leaving N63.46 billion outstanding. February recorded improved efficiencies, with collections of N196.68 billion from billings of N242.29 billion, reducing uncollected revenue to N45.61 billion.

March figures reflected a similar trend, with N246.43 billion billed and N196.13 billion collected, resulting in N50.30 billion in revenue leakage. Overall, the data highlights mixed commercial performance across the 11 DisCos, as gains in billing and collection efficiencies were offset by persistent collection shortfalls, raising concerns about the sector’s financial sustainability and ability to fund critical investments.
